Congrats to my client and friend on purchasing her new home!
Several months ago, I worked with her to sell her beautiful split level (see picture below).
Now she’s successfully downsized and she is elated!
Downsizing ~ Bigger Is NOT Always Better!
There comes a point in life when you will evaluate where you are and adjust accordingly. That is what a lot of homeowners find themselves doing.
Here are few reasons why homeowners downsize:
-
They become empty-nesters due to the children leaving the house.
-
They become widowed.
-
They need to adjust for health reasons (i.e. climbing stairs become a challenge)
-
They simply just become sick and tired of keeping up with a large home.
If you can relate to any of these, it may be time to DOWNSIZE!
Here are some things to consider when downsizing:
-
What exactly about your current home is no longer working?
-
Ideally, what would make things easier?
-
What area would you like to move to?
-
Are you in a position to sell now? Does the market support it? Does your financial situation support it a.k.a Can you qualify for a new home?
-
Do you want to sell your current home or rent it out? If you are able to buy another home and convert your current home to a rental, it may be a good source of supplemental income for you.
-
What will you do with items you no longer want or need? Ideas: estate sale, donate, sell, etc.
